Free Friday music gigs at Oxford House across summer

Diverse – Talented – Beautiful

There’s free live music here every Friday at Oxford House, the beating heart of Bethnal Green since 1884. Our former “settlement” building sits on the edge of Weaver’s Field and is just a 5 minute walk from Bethnal Green tube. Our institution has strong music roots, including ties with East London’s jazz community, Bangladeshi community and Somali heritage – this building has offered shelter and support to immigrants and East London’s neediest since we opened in Victorian times. But today we like to celebrate and show-off the vibrant and wonderful musical output of our community.

Today several music organisations including Nonclassical, Spitalfields Music and Young & Talented have their offices upstairs in this Victorian listed building.

Swing into our café every Friday at 5pm to enjoy a free show – advanced booking is advised via our website.

Singer-songwriter Sherika Sherard plays on Friday 13th August, she started her career as a local busker and recently wrote the score for a film. Guitarist and singer Sebastian Schub is in on Friday 20th August, don’t miss the Oxford House Jazz Jamming session on 27th August, and then in September look out for shows from Saied Silbak, Max Runham and Chiasa Agor.

Feel free to use our Oxford House café during the week and enjoy some light acoustic tunes while you sip a fresh juice or tuck into a cold scoop of Hackney Gelato!

If you’re wanting to find out more about Oxford House’s fascinating history and role within Bethnal Green over the decades you can check out our free exhibition in the gallery space here too, just behind the café.
