Oh! Trustee’s Interview: Josh Spero
Josh is a Commissioning Editor at the Financial Times. Before this he was the editor of Spear’s magazine. He has written for publications including The Independent, The Guardian, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Economist and the National Theatre. He is a regular guest on CNBC and has appeared on the BBC World Service and radio and TV stations around the world to talk about everything from finance to art. He is a co-founder of theartsdesk.com, Britain’s first critic-run arts review website.
I want to have a creative impact in my local area. I wanted to get involved with an organisation in my community that helped the community in diverse and imaginative ways.
It’s the power of the People. I’ve learned that East London’s best resource is its people – and the amazing courses, companies and charities I see them running at Oxford House.
We all envision a Bright future for OH! The best thing is being able to share a vision for the future of Oxford House with people who believe in it too. The worst thing is (occasionally) the catering at board meetings.
It’s made me a little more well-rounded. Being a trustee has given me good experience of being on a board and all the skills that it needs, including consensus-building, innovative thinking and polite (if passionate) debate.
Satisfaction is Guaranteed. Do it! It’s extremely rewarding when you see an organisation deal with its challenges and flourish.
