‘The most exciting part has been keeping in touch with the artists’

I chose to undertake an internship in the UK to improve my language skills and complete my MA studies with a valuable experience abroad. Following my interests in arts and looking for an environment strongly related to the city of London, Oxford House has been the right workplace to enjoy my Erasmus Placement period, thanks to its connection with the local community and the wide variety of exhibitions hosted by the Gallery.

During these three months, being involved in the organisation of different events has been a good opportunity to test the skills gained during my previous work experiences, especially social and problem-solving skills.

The best moment of my time spent with the Gallery Team has been organising the “Visions of Nature” exhibition during the Chelsea Fringe Festival, because of the different aspects involved in the curating process. Selecting the artworks and giving them a coherent meaning at the exhibition are two of the activities in which I tried to use the skills gained during my University studies. Nevertheless the most exciting part of the work during this exhibition has been keeping in contact with the artists’ group. Listening to their needs and dealing with a lot of problem-solving cases trained my organisation and time-managing skills. Moreover, receiving feedback from them has been a way to evaluate my work and find out how to improve my work method.

Another positive aspect of working at Oxford House is the young and international environment. Almost all of my colleagues were students or recent graduates doing internships in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. We shared a lot of experiences, supported each other, and exchanged ideas and projects. In this way I made new friends, and this will be one of my best memories about my period at Oxford House.
