The Insiders’ Guide to Bethnal Green 2015: a free community journalism course

We’re currently recruiting participants for an eight-week community journalism course in Bethnal Green. It’s a free course – thanks to funding from Awards for All – and it’s specifically designed to help volunteers and staff at local community groups (especially those based or active in E2) develop new skills in community-based journalism.

Over a series of practical, beginner-level workshops we’ll cover the basics of journalism, including how to research article ideas, carry out interviews, and structure and write features. We’ll also spend time out and about visiting community projects, going behind-the-scenes at local landmarks, and reviewing shops and cafes.

Throughout the course, we’ll work together to create ‘The Insiders’ Guide to Bethnal Green 2015‘, a 48-page guide to the neighbourhood. We recently ran a similar project in Bow, here’s a link to the magazine that the group produced.

The course runs on eight Tuesday mornings, starting on Tues 13th January, with sessions from 10.00am-1.00pm. Full details are set out in the attached flyer.

Anyone interested in applying should email Graham Barker at as soon as possible with the information requested on the flyer booking form.
