A Long Night In London is marking the 80th anniversary of events that took place in Bethnal Green’s tube shelter on the night of 3rd March 1943. An intense story of love, catastrophe and survival on Britain’s home front; a true tale from World War 2, this deeply moving and powerful story unfolds uniquely, including farcical radio announcements and good old British Music Hall traditions, A Long Night In London will take you on a journey you will never forget.
The tour will begin with performances in Bethnal Green on March 3rd for surviving relatives and the public, followed by a tour of UK arts venues culminating in Fringe performances in Brighton in May.
There are still so many elements of the story to uncover and share. We are forever grateful to the survivors for bravely baring the truth of that night, especially considering the collective silence they experienced from all sides.
We feel privileged to be able to bring this story to audiences all over the UK, while keeping the voices of those who witnessed it alive.
We wish to acknowledge the invaluable help of the members of Stairway to Heaven Memorial Trust (registered charity 1118618) in creation of this piece. We also give our eternal thanks to Sandra Scotting from Stairway to Heaven and Richard Wiltshire of Tower Hamlets Local History and Archives.
This performance is presented by Giddy Theatre.
