Bethnal Green has always been a well connected part of the East End served by many roads and connections that linked it with the City of London and the rest of the East End. Join this session led by the Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives to trace the evolution of Bethnal Green through their unique map collections. We will travel through Elizabethan London, survive a cholera epidemic, trace the migration of Huguenot and Jewish communities to the area and explore some of the iconic landmarks of Bethnal Green.
This talk will take place in Oxford House’s beautiful Victorian chapel.
Session will last 45 mins with 15 mins for Q&A. As the session is taking place at Oxford House, all maps used will be copies of originals from the THLHLA collections.
