Join us for July Creative Cafe  event.  This month we’re hosting an Open Mic Night, where poets, comedians and storytellers will take the stage.

Featuring Ibrahim Hirsi, Simba Rabsha, Deqa Abdi, Nomadic Libaax and Baar Hirsi, hosted by Noura Sheikh, this promises to be a night of unforgettable performances.

 

Ibrahim Hirsi; Poetry Performance

Ibrahim Hirsi is a writer, independent researcher, and editorial assistant at Poetry Birmingham Literary Journal. He is currently working on a series of papers exploring the metrics and prosody of southern Somali poetic forms. Ibrahim has been published in The Poetry Review, Modern Poetry in Translation, PBLJ and in the anthology Before Them, We (Flipped Eye, 2022).

 

Nomadic Libaax; Poetry Performance

Ali, also known as Nomadic Libaax, is the founder of Poetically-Perplexed.com, a platform for creative expression and showcasing diverse artists. Based in London, Ali is a Rhythmic Assisted Poet who uses poetry to reimagine alignment and explore introspective questions. Deqa Abdi, Storyteller

Deqa is a poet, a storyteller, a reader and a passionate writer. She particularly loves writing about culture and identity and is vastly inspired by her early childhood, which was spent as a nomad in Somalia. Deqa is an author of #Marketfiftyfour publication ‘Stories of Silk’, she wrote a reflection piece on the importance of orally transmitted stories, and how history, culture, and markers of identity are passed down from generation to generation by means of these oral traditions.

 

Baar Hirsi, Writer

Baar Hersi is an Associate Senior Leader at an inner London school, she has years of experience in education. She is also an educational advocate, helping Somali parents navigate the school systems. Outside of education, Baar is a radio host, a youtuber, a presenter and has hosted/organised many events celebrating Somali culture. Baar also has a proven track record of developing mentoring programmes for young Somali girls.

 

Simba Rabsha, Comedian

Somali-born comedian, Simba Rabsha is a winner of the notorious Top Secret Gong Show Nov 2022 and Big Belly’s Ding Dong Show September 2022 as well as a finalist in the Max Turner Prize 2022. Simba’s quick fire delivery and self-reflective material has made him one to watch on the comedy circuit.
