Nadifa Mohamed Book Launch: In conversation with Professor Laura Hammond.
Kayd Somali Arts & Culture present the paperback launch of Booker Prize shortlisted author Nadifa Mohamed’s third novel , The Fortune Men. The novel is set in 1952 among the “tumbledown” docks, milk bars and lodging houses of Cardiff’s multiracial Tiger Bay. It explores the real events surrounding the wrongful imprisonment and execution of Mahmood Mattan, a Somali seaman and father of three young boys, who was the last man to be hanged in Cardiff prison.
Join us for a discussion on the history of Somalis in the UK, especially in Wales and the larger implications of Mahmood’s story chaired by SOAS’ Professor Laura Hammond in conversation with writer Nadifa Mohamed.
