Join this conversation with Sakir Khader co-moderated by Dalia Al-Dujaili [British Journal of Photography] and Mohamed Somji [Gulf Photo Plus] as they explore the evolution of his work documenting life in Palestine over the past five years. Sakir has spent this time photographing his family, friends, and community in Jenin and Nablus, capturing a deeply personal yet politically charged portrait of everyday life under occupation. From documenting resistance fighters to focusing on the quiet yet powerful acts of daily survival, his work offers a nuanced view of resistance that is often overlooked.

Sakir will also discuss his book Dying to Exist, a poignant collection that offers an unflinching look at the lives of Palestinians enduring conflict, displacement, and violence. The book chronicles the complex emotional landscapes of his subjects, focusing on themes of loss, endurance, and the struggle to maintain a sense of identity and hope. This conversation will delve into Sakir’s approach to documenting both the intimate and the collective, as well as the ethical considerations of representing trauma and resilience. It’s an opportunity to reflect on how his images push beyond the conventional narratives of victimhood, and instead tell stories of resistance in all its forms.
